Nature shapes everything, which is why the most sensitive artists in history have learned from nature. How nature shapes depends on a range of factors: soil, wind, air, stone, wood... Nature gives us nourishment. A look at history shows us that our ancestors not only depended on nature for food, but that they were much more connected to it than today, worshipping all its elements and phenomena. Even in ancient civilizations, one can feel this connection with nature, with the search for answers to what nature is, what impulses it has...

Oskar Kogoj, who has been living and observing life along the Vipava river all his life, has always been fascinated by the old plane trees that grow on the riverbank, which are said to have been planted by our ancestors to strengthen the riverbank. Kogoj's grandfather Silvij also planted one by the Vipava and it was little Oskar's job to water it every second or third day with a jug of water from the Vipava. That was a whole ritual for him.

A few hundred metres from his home, there are hundreds of years old plane trees, whose roots have been completely "stripped" and laid bare by the Vipava river. In the intertwined roots, countless images can be detected. The roots intertwine like the fingers of a hand. All these images are inviting to any passer-by, let alone an artist. Rough removal from nature can do more harm than good, but sometimes there is an opportunity to breathe new life into a broken-off part. In this case, Kogoj decided to incorporate part of the root into a club table, which he dedicated to the memory of his grandfather Silvij.

It is an exploration of the prehistoric man, the union of man and wood, the magic of wood. It is about a spiritual rebirth, about breathing, so that the soul develops in the body, not just the body. In life, it is always necessary to seek balance. Our way of life is not straight. There are many twists and turns, side roads, obstacles... but at the same time there are many paths leading to the goal. Our path is like a river, which discovers many things along the way, and at the same time is like an intertwined root. The root, woven into the shape of this table, represents the intertwining of life's paths, experiences and choices that shape us. Just as the roots of a tree do not follow a straight path, but wind steadily through the earth, overcoming obstacles and finding their way to freedom, so too does a human being grow, learn, evolve ... on his or her journey.

Life teaches us about values, morals, our own choices, it gives us challenges to face, we must never give up, we must just keep going, like a root that keeps winding its way. Roots are our metaphor, they are the windings, the intertwining of life's paths and experiences. Roots have their own charm, just like life.
