EMPRESS BARBARA CUP

This collection of cups symbolises the spirituality and beauty of Barbara Celjska (Barbara of Celje), daughter of Herman Celjski, who was probably born in 1387 on Slovenian soil.
Barbara of Celje married Sigismund of Luxemburg, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, when she was just a minor, and thus became Empress Barbara. She loved beauty and kindness, for she was a true beauty herself and represented the then concept of beauty and kindness. She was a great woman and remains a symbol of culturally conscious women.
The collection of cups, shaped in the form of a cupola or a ball with four legs, represents the heavenly world that stands on the four points of the Earth. The cup’s handle is imprinted with a form of the antique holy hold which had a special meaning of holiness during ritual drinking. The touching of the thumb and forefinger, joined together in the holy circle (mudre), represents God. God is represented by the thumb, whilst human ego is represented by the forefinger. God and human nature must always join together in life on Earth.
