Dedicated to our dear friend TAPIO WIRKKALA (1915–1985) and his family (Rut, Marija and Sam).
Tapio Wirkkala is an icon of Finnish design. As a modern designer, my friend Tapio realised that the depth of the MESSAGE OF NATURE is as transcendent as what was revealed by LEONARDO DA VINCI in his work "MONA LISA SMILE" – LA GIOCONDA.
In his work "ULTHIMA THULE" (1967), Wirkkala, with great intuition, discovered MAN’S JOURNEY to DIVINE CREATION, "the journey of the river to the sea – man’s journey home."
Our life is a voyage. It is the COLISEUM of innumerable incarnations, the oscillation or vibration of the SCALES between left and right, between good and evil, between love and hate, between plus and minus, between white and black…
"TULA" THE BIRD plastic art communicates the highest things, communicates love and, at the same time, warns of the civilisation of Hyperboreans that is under the North Sea today. It also communicates of the civilisation of our ancestors, who mastered the secret of the God-man relationship, the relationship between heaven and earth.
With the help of various realisations, a consciousness of truth reveals itself to man – the consciousness of cosmic love, goodness, sea, river – ULTHIMA THULE.
