THE CROSS OF HOPE PENDANT
(3,4 cm x 4,7 cm, silver, rodinated)
"The Karst rock, which had been soaked in earth oil deep underground for thousands of years and turned shiny black, was used by the artist Oskar Kogoj to carve this cross, which was presented to Pope John Paul II as a sign of respect. The artist's hand has somehow transformed the natural roughness of the stone into an organic softness so as to present an instrument of torture as gracefully tamed matter, almost stretched into a four-handed embrace." (Alojz Rebula, May 1987)
The small version of the cross was made as a silver pendant.
