Description

TRIGLAV KNIFE

(24 cm x 3 cm x 4 cm, stainless steel, walnut wood, leather sheath)

The Triglav hunting knife was created in the belief that advanced technology and avant-garde design should not ignore the great lessons from the past, cultural traditions and the "Nature design".
The process of designing the Triglav knife was a study of contemporary design inspired by the Paleoveneti culture and the most important archaeological sites: Sveta Lucija – Most na Soči, Este, Padua, Kuffarn, Bologna, Hallstatt, Novo Mesto, Vače, and other sites, as well as the folk heritage of Slovenia, Friuli and Central Europe with rich hunting traditions, which gave rise to the beautiful tale of the Goldhorn, set on the slopes of Triglav – Trirog – Trimužjat.
The creation of the Triglav knife included combining avant-garde with tradition, and the use of advanced technologies and craftwork experience.
The blade is made of stainless steel with a high carbon content, therefore it stays sharp longer. It is formed using a hot forging process similar to the process used to manufacture turbine blades, which brings out the blade’s excellent mechanical properties.
This heat-treatment process represents the rediscovered tradition of Friuli craftsmen – blacksmiths from Maniago (Italy) – even though they now use the most sophisticated modern devices, such as controlled atmosphere furnaces and rapid cooling at minus 70 °C.
The knives are numbered, and the handles are hand-carved from precious walnut wood or ebony by true craft masters. The TRIGLAV knife is a part of some permanent collections of Kogoj's art, including the permanent collection in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
