DIOCLETIAN HAND MIRROR
(41 cm x 15 cm, walnut wood, mirror or mirror with 23-carat gold)
The old hand mirror that was found in Split at Diocletian’s Palace demonstrates ethnographic value. Kogoj’s mirror resembles this shape, as it is in the form of a perfect ellipse. It symbolically reminds us of the archetype of creation, the egg from which all the timeless cultural heritage of Dalmatia originates. The mirror has healing powers and belongs to the Energy Design Collection. It is made of noble walnut wood, hand-gilded with 23-carat gold according to old Venetian traditions, which gives the mirror even more divine energy, as it radiates the nobility of the old gilding culture.
In 2003, an exhibit was held at Diocletian’s Palace, hosting 60 of Kogoj’s works of art that he had given to the city of Split. In 2005, to mark the 1700th anniversary of Diocletian’s Palace, the DIOCLETIAN SARCOPHAGUS was artistically designed from precious Brač stone "rasotica" and put up on display.
