Its shape is derived from the oval, egg-like shape that is connected symbolically to the discovery of America. According to a well-known tale, Columbus tried to solace and cheer up his sailors during a storm by distracting them from thinking about the rough sea. He promised that whoever succeeded in putting the egg upright would be awarded. No one but him was able to perform this philosophically tinged task. He took the egg and tapped it on the table to flatten its bottom – it remained upright. The Columbus glass reminds us of this egg, whirling perpetually, moving and vibrating incessantly just like human life, the Earth.
The glass with the liquid should be held in the hand, otherwise the liquid will pour. A playful glass that has its charm!
