A fountain symbolizes life, truth, change, and water. Fountains and water sources have played an important role in the history and are essential to life. Even water itself is the symbol of purification. We can find different symbols, paintings, and writings on fountains, which indicates their significance and power. The shape of a fountain – according to the tradition of the SLOVENIAN VENETI who worshiped GOD VENETO – originally means A WAVY LINE. It is an ancient symbol that stands for force and power.

The word ŠTIRNA comes from St Esther, the Slovenian goddess of WATER AND EART. In the old days, a štirna or a pč were made from prehistoric stones – the co-called SAMCI. Samci are stones which have been shaped by nature into beautiful forms over the course of thousands of years, and they exhibit a special vibration. These rocks were placed in a circular form, creating a well. The vibration of these rocks is transferred to the water, which absorbs their energy and gains a healing structure.
These famous formations, which are known to have been present in Slovenia as far back as 16th century, are a testimony of Slovenians’ spiritual life. In Miren, where I live, we have around 45 wells. The form of the 16th-century well is taken from my homestead. It was brought from Hruševica near Komen in 1970.
